D.J. Bybee-Jason Martin Sprint Car Team to Dissolve – Martin Seeking Out New Opportunities
Lonnie Wheatley, WICHITA, Kan. (October 26, 2018) – It is said that all good things must come to an end.
Such is the case with the D.J. Bybee-owned Sprint Car team that Lincoln, NE, resident Jason Martin has piloted over much of the last two seasons.
Bybee cites the need to focus on business as the primary need to cease his portion of racing operations at this time.
“My business is doing well, but I don’t have the resources that we need to do what we want,” Bybee says.
The duo joined forces prior to the 2017 season and have been a formidable combination since that time. Since the beginning of the 2017 season, Martin has racked up a total of 21 wins and 66 top-fives in 98 starts.
And, even without focusing on IMCA points, Martin has finished among the top ten and then top 20 in IMCA National Sprint Car points. The team also captured Nebraska’s I-80 Speedway track championship in 2018 and ranked second in Nebraska 360 Sprint Car points.
“I saw him (Martin) at Short Track Nationals a couple of years and just started talking to him about his plans for the following year, that’s how we got started,” Bybee recalls. “His work ethic and attention to detail is second to none, he prepares cars from start to finish at the highest level. Jason is good at anything he does and will be successful at whatever he does.”
“I have never known anyone more organized, respectful and professional,” Bybee continues. “I can see why he’s successful, because of his passion. He has more focus than anyone I’ve worked around in any capacity. If Jason can get the right people around him, he can race at the top level. I definitely plan to continue to sponsor him wherever he goes from here.”
Martin is appreciative of the two-year stint with Bybee.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity that presented itself with D.J., I feel like we accomplished a lot over our two years,” Martin comments. “I look forward to working together on a smaller basis in the future.”
Martin is currently in the process of seeking out opportunities to form or join forces with a new Sprint Car team for the 2019 season and beyond.
“With my dedication to my family and my full-time career, it’s getting harder and harder to operate a full-time Sprint Car team basically on my own,” Martin explains. “With that being said, I’d really like to seek out a full-time ride primarily, but I also have a majority of the essentials it will take to build a new race car team with the right alignment of another major sponsor/partner.”
Bybee and Martin are both quick to point out a number of marketing partners and individuals that contributed to the team’s success. Among those are Speedway Motors, EMI, PRO Shocks, MyRacePass, Myers Racing Engines, Wilwood Brakes, Rod End Supply, Butlerbuilt Seats, Shell Shock, HRP Race Products, Simpson, Nebraska One, Bybee Electric, Trucks Plus, Midwest Linings, Automasters, Deuces Wild Powdercoating, Highside Racewear, Bill Howell and Kaleb Gaines, Brian Erb, Briley Racing Engines and most importantly, their families for sacrificing all that they do to support their dreams.
