Hodnett Wires Volusia Opener

BARBERVILLE, Fla. (February 11, 2015) – The Pennsylvania Posse struck an early blow in Florida with Greg Hodnett wiring the field in Wednesday night’s 30-lap All Star Circuit of Champions feature that kicked off the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.

The Memphis native that has called Thomasville, PA, in recent years gunned into the lead at the outset and led throughout aboard the Heffner Racing Enterprises Lelands.com No. 27, ultimately taking the checkered flag by a healthy 3.776-second margin over quick-timer Danny Lasoski.

“We had a good spot to start and took advantage of it,” Hodnett summed up in victory lane after starting from the pole position.

Hodnett, who racked up a dozen feature wins in 2014, broke away from the field following a turn two caution after two laps for Cody Darrah and Lucas Wolfe and never looked back, working through traffic from the eight lap mark on as the final 28 laps ran off in non-stop fashion.

“I about gave it away a time or two in traffic but got away with it,” Hodnett said.

Starting third, Paul McMahan raced past Lasoski for second at the start and kept Hodnett within striking distance until a turn two bobble on the 22nd lap opened the door for Lasoski and Brad Sweet to slip by.

Lasoski drove Tod Quiring’s gomuddy.com No. 2L to second, saying that, “It was one short of where we wanted to be. I spun the wheels on the starts and gave it away there.”

Sweet advanced from seventh to third in the KKR No. 49 with McMahan in fourth, while Kerry Madsen’s All Star win streak ended at three with Wednesday night’s fifth-place finish. Daryn Pittman raced from 13th to sixth, while David Gravel advanced from 15th to seventh. Dale Blaney, Jason Johnson and Jason Sides completed the top ten.

The initial start to the feature was waved off when Joey Saldana spun exiting turn four, with the red flag then flying to unhook the cars of Donny Schatz and Dave Blaney in turn one. Schatz rallied from the tail to salvage a 12th-place finish.

Lasoski topped Wednesday’s field of 28 in qualifying with a lap of 13.039 seconds with Pittman, Jason Johnson, Gravel and Hodnett winning the heat races. Schatz won the 12-lap “B” Main.
