Mark Smith Sails in USCS Opener
OCALA, Fla. (February 9, 2018) – The 2018 United Sprint Car Series season started exactly the same way the 2017 season ended with Sunbury, Pennsylvania’s Mark Smith parked in victory lane at Bubba Raceway Park.
After starting sixth, Smith chased down Carson Short for the point en route to the win aboard his Mach 1 chassis.  Smith took the checkered flag ahead of Short, who reclaimed second when Seth Bergman tangled with a lapped car on the final round to surrender the position.
Tyler Clem advanced ten positions to round out the podium in third while Tanner Thorson charged from 21st to capture fourth.  Tony Stewart rounded out the top five after starting 19th.
Joe Swanson, Derek Hagar, Larry Wight, Smith and Tony Agin topped heat race action for the 35 car field with Clem and Danny Martin, Jr., winning “B” Mains.
