McFadden Amps it Up in World Series Speedweek Opener

ADELAIDE, S.A. (December 26, 2016) – James McFadden solidified his lead at the head of the World Series Sprintcars standings with a dominant performance at Adelaide Motorsport Park on Boxing Night. Powerful wins in both heats saw McFadden take pole for the feature, where a near-comfortable drive saw the W17 Monte Motorsports entry lead most of the 35 laps to take the $10,000 prize.

The only other driver in the hunt for the round win was S81 Luke Dillon, who finished a strong second. Quick time in qualifying went to defending series champion Jamie Veal, but he could progress no higher than third in the A-Main, with W2 Brooke Tatnell snapping at his heels in fourth.

Knoxville Nationals champion Jason Johnson was one of the first to exit the A-Main, via a serious of vicious rolls. He’s put a serious dent in his ambitions for a fourth Speedweek title, and was joined on the infield by N78 Andrew Wright who rolled twice on the night to continue his unlucky streak.

The meeting itself was plagued by light rain that reappeared a number of times, and constant monitoring of the forecast saw the programme of events shortened as the night progressed. The shootouts were the first casualty, with the B-Main also shelved as the weather moved in. This proved to be an auspicious decision, with the feature race itself declared seven laps early as the crew removed Andrew Wright’s car and droplets began to fall on the now-slick surface.

Earlier in the night, other heat race wins went to NT4 Jamie McInnes, S44 Daniel Evans, S72 Mitch Foster and S83 Shannon Barry. V55 Ashley Scott collects the Hoosier Hard Charger courtesy of a six place gain in the A-Main, up from the back of the grid to 14th spot.
