McCarl Cashes in with WoO Vegas Win – Left to Wonder Who Let the Dogs Out…

Lonnie Wheatley, LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 5, 2015) – Terry McCarl capped a stressful day by wiring the field in Thursday night’s 30-lap World of Outlaws feature atop The Dirt Track at Las Vegas.

While McCarl held a commanding lead most of the way, Joey Saldana and Danny Lasoski closed in over the final rounds but McCarl would have none of it as he took the $10,000 winner’s share aboard the snowplow.com No. 24.

“My dad told me a long time ago it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or win by a mile, it’s all the same,” McCarl said after his 11th career WoO victory.

It capped an edgy 24 hours after a pair of dogs from the McCarl’s Altoona, IA, home went missing Wednesday night, fortunately showing back up around race time on Thursday after Twitter APB’s alerted the area of the missing canines.

Gunning into the lead at the outset, McCarl distanced himself from the field with a 3.75 second advantage erased when the race’s first caution flew after 13 laps. Following another pair of cautions three laps later, McCarl checked out again until traffic became an issue.

Saldana closed to within a pair of car-lengths and made a bid for the lead on the 28th round, only to watch McCarl drive away to the checkered flag by a handful of car lengths.

“That thing was just rolling, I could go wherever I wanted to go,” McCarl said.

Saldana worked his way up to second by the tenth round after starting fifth aboard the Motter No. 71m, fending off some pressure from Lasoski while trying to ruin McCarl’s party before settling for second.

“We had a shot there at the end but Terry was so strong the whole race, it was gonna take a lapped car to make something happen,” Saldana said.

After a big slide past Ian Madsen and Daryn Pittman on the 12th round, Missouri’s Lasoski kept the gomuddy.com No. 2L in third the rest of the way. Donny Schatz scratched his way forward from 14th to fourth with Jason Sides rounding out the top five.
